Halloween special
DREAM OR DEATH
DREAM OR DEATH
I drove my truck down the street on my way to the mall. It was a normal day in October. People setting up decorations for the upcoming Halloween. I was admiring every house decorations. One had a balloon witch on the front door. Another had jack'o'laterns. I was so distracted by the variety of decorations. But one struck me... a balloon of a snake-like creature. It stood upright with arms and wore dark armor. It would not have struck me if I didn't feel as though it was watching me... Suddenly, when I looked forward, I quickly tried to hit the brakes as an old lady crossed the street. I panicked as the truck flipped and eventually, everything turned black.
I woke up to see... hell? I wasn't sure. It didn't exactly look like the fiery red-rocked magma chasm that was pictured in books and movies. This place looked dark and depressing. I was in a cell, that was for sure. I looked around to see only more cells but nobody in them. I sat for a few seconds to think. I wondered where I was, if I was even alive, if I was just dreaming. I then heard a door open behind me. I stood up and turned around to see a horrific monster! Looked like some werewolf. Wearing a purple trench coat and holding a staff with a skull I don't even know impaled on the top. "Come with me." He ordered. I was hesitant, of course. But if I didn't obey, he was probably going to eat me if I wasn't about to be eaten already. I followed him around the cells. I tried to ask him a few questions but he just ignored me. He finally lead me to a room. The room was nothing special but it had three... snake-like creatures. Those snake creatures were wearing black armor and their faces were hidden by their helmets. All you could see were their eyes. The werewolf gave me to them and two of those snake creatures dragged me into a blinding light.
I threw my body forward. Waking up with a gasp. "Woah! He's awake!" Someone said. I looked around with shock. There were doctors around me... human doctors. They made me relaxed and I rested my head on my bed. "Wh- I'm not dead?" I asked as several doctors walked off. "No, and you are very fortunate. That truck flipped three times before it finally landed on the hood. You suffered many broken bones but... that is all your suffered." A doctor explained. I looked down at the bed at my body. There were many casts on my body, my left foot, and my right arm. "Just calm down and rest. You are very lucky to be alive." Another doctor said while washing his hands at a nearby sink. I was so relieved to be out of that mess. Yet those snake creatures... it seemed I saw them before. I began to rest and fell asleep when the doctors gave me several pills.
I woke up. This time, not on a hospital bed or a cell. I was... on a floor bed. It was so dark, I could barely see anything. I sat up to see I was not alone. There were... red cats... sleeping all around me. They were on beds too but they looked extremely dangerous. I couldn't help but feel that if I made a single noise, I was dead. I slowly got up and tip-toed my way to the exit. When I was close, I took a step until two axes clunked together to block my path. I gasped when I saw the two battle axes but held in my scream. Someone then spoke... he had a very deep but evil voice. "Where do you think you're going, slave? You trying to take advantage of the Warden's hospitality?" I backed up from the exit to see two of those snake creatures there. They were both staring at me with murder in their eyes. I felt I was in danger. But I then began thinking. This must be a dream! I woke up in a cell with a werewolf, snake creatures, and now red cats! I scoffed and tried to walk past them. "Hey!" One of the snakes called out. They both dashed for me and I merely blinked.
When my eyes opened from that blink. I was in the hospital bed again. I knew it was a dream. Otherwise, I would have been tackled and beaten to a pulp. I licked my lips only to feel my throat was very dry. "Doctor... can I have some water?" I requested. The doctor glanced at me, nodded, and walked over to a sink. He gave me a cup of water and checked my status. "You're recovering quite fast... though something appears to be affecting your mental status." The doctor said. "What do you mean by that?" I asked. "Something is tackling your intelligence. I have- I have never seen something like this before." The doctor said. I was a little worried, wondering if I was going to have amnesia or something. "I'll call in the other doctors, we'll see whats wrong. Meanwhile, try to go sleep so my assistant here can run tests." The doctor said while heading out of the room.
I woke up to see I was... bound in chains. Both of my arms and legs were cuffed and attached to two separate poles. It was still very dark. I then heard something... it sounded like... cheering. I looked around to see that I was, again, not alone. There were two others. Both of them were red cats. "Terror Fold! Today, we celebrate a day that has been remembered for thousands of years!" Someone said. It sounded like it was coming from in front of me but I couldn't see anyone. It struck me there was a wall there though. The cheering grew louder. "On this very day, thousands of years ago. We have established our home here in Kil'ojon and rid of the weak devil cats!" The same voice announced. The cheering grew even louder than before. "Now! We present these three sacrifices!" The voice said. My heart raced as he said 'sacrifices'. No! This is still a dream! I must wake up! I thought to myself. I blinked many times... but every time, I still saw that black wall in front of me. I was panicking, breathing heavily and rapidly. "Hey, human." Someone said to my left. I looked over to see that... red cat was talking to me. "Where are you from?" He asked. "I-I came from New York." I replied. The cat continued to stare me. Not with anger or murder... but with pity. "Why did you ask me that?" I asked him. He was silent for a while until he spoke. "Your last thoughts should be about your home." The cat said. I looked down. Tears were running down my cheeks. Suddenly, the wall in front of me opened. I looked up to see thousands of those snake creatures cheering in a crowd. We were on a stage. The snake that was talking was on the stage too... announcing his speech. "This devil cat is our first sacrifice. We sacrifice her in the name of Phoenix!" The snake said, grabbing a very large ax. The crowd cheered. I couldn't watch though. I heard that cat begging for her life. I then heard blood spilling, a scream, then nothing but the cheering. I was crying, thinking that nobody would ever remember me. "This devil cat, we sacrifice in the name of Kane!" The snake slithered over to the red cat that was talking to me. He too, died by the ax. The crowd then silenced after a few seconds of the red cat's death. "This human thought he could simply walk past our guards." The snake announced, The crowd began to boo me. "He thought we were weak!" The snake announced again. The crowd began insulting me an telling the snake how I should die painfully. "Well, we proved him wrong! Let him be an example of what happens to those who think we're weak!" The snake said. The crowd cheered as the snake approached me with the ax. "Please... don't kill me." I begged, tears running down my cheek. The snake ignored me and raised the ax above his head. I screamed when the ax came down on me. Pain shot through my shoulder where it cut and I couldn't help but scream in pain. The crowd laughing and cheering as that snake lifted the axe. I no longer was thinking of survival... all I could think now... was to have it all over soon...
